As I was expecting, Biden and the senate democrats are backing off from the $15/hr minimum wage.
Biden is an establishment politician, as are most of the Democrats in congress. They like doing a few small things to benefit the working people of America… as long as it doesn’t inconvenience their corporate donors.
Moderate democrats like to think of progressives like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren as just being too radical, but this is what it comes down to: Establishment politicians are owned by corporate interests, and they won’t do anything to improve the lives of struggling Americans if it will affect their donors’ bottom lines by so much as a dollar. We’ve been living with this reality for so long we’re used to it, but there is a word for it: Corruption.
All Republicans and most Democrats depend on campaign contributions from extremely rich donors, and that money isn’t free. There are strings attached, and those strings are the reason we can’t have universal healthcare, a minimum wage a person can live on, student loan forgiveness, clean air, or any of the other things progressives push for but can never achieve.
Most Americans are living in varying levels of financial crisis, all so that corporate stockholders don’t have to stop getting richer every day. Call the progressives radical if you must, but the United States is the richest country in the world, and we’re living like third-worlders to maintain this system of radical imbalance.
