No point arguing with the numbers. Quick synopsis: The Sturgis biker rally caused a massive outbreak, infections in South Dakota surging 600%, causing thousands of deaths; then the bikers returned home, causing huge infection surges in other states. No masks, no distancing, and a lot of unvaccinated bikers.
Meanwhile, Lollapalooza in Chicago drew hundreds of thousands as well, but required anyone without proof of vaccination to wear masks. Only a few hundred infections, and no surge.
In Provincetown over 4th of July weekend, again a huge gathering, a large spike in infections, but it dropped again within three weeks and didn’t spread, with few hospitalizations and no deaths. Because the majority of the population was vaccinated.
Yes, we can still have big events without killing thousands of people. We just have to be vaccinated and not afraid to mask up when needed.
